In what was already set to be a controversial series,  when Santa the global hero that he is exclaimed his loyalty for England. It was on the second day that the noel stalwart had the wickets tumbling, and the South African team was on the ropes.

Unfortunately however the South Africans came off the pitch with a tirade of insults against Santa. One of their allegations by Makhaya Ntini yet to be substantiated was that Santa had been sledging.

South Africa grabbed four wickets for 12 runs and after lunch moved into the lead on the third afternoon of the first Test in Port Elizabeth.

Makhaya Ntini removed Mark Butcher (79), Andrew Flintoff (35) and Geraint Jones to catches before Andrew Hall ousted Matthew Hoggard for a duck.

The strikes reduced the visitors to 358-8 - an advantage of 21 runs.

England added 72 runs in the morning session, with Andrew Strauss (caught for 126) one of three batsmen to fall.
